ZTE Demonstrated Enhancements of OpenStack NFV

Recently,during the OpenStack Boston Summit, ZTE fully demonstrated the optimization ofOpenStack for the application of NFV (Network Function Virtualization) in thetelecom field.

Tosave energy and reduce cost of telecom data center, ZTE proposed a solutionbased on the OpenStack Watcher project and demonstrated the effect of this solution.It automatically monitors the load of each computing node, powers down the nodewhich does not have any virtual machine (VM) running, and starts a new node whenthe overall system load is high. This program is conducive to the operator to dynamicallyadjust the energy consumption according to the actual load situation.

Inaddition, ZTE has proposed a solution based on the OpenSack Senlin project toachieve high availability and scalability management of the VNF (VirtualizedNetwork Function) cluster under the NFV framework. 


The solution uses a templateto define VNF, which contains Senlin services, and then is deployed throughOpenStack's Heat and Tacker services. By using the management capability of theSenlin cluster, the solution is truly equipped with automatic scalability, highavailability, and smoother management. At the summit site, ZTE successfullydemonstrated the Demo of virtual router-based products, showing the superiority of the solution.

ZTE,as a leading traditional telecom equipment vendor, conforms to the currentdevelopment trend of virtualization and cloud computing, and pays closeattention to and invests in the telecom cloud NFV field. Based on OpenStack,ZTE has developed TECS, a cloud management platform product that meets both CTand IT needs. On the one hand, it has actively promoted the implementation ofNFV-related requirements in the OpenStack community; on the other hand, itactively introduces advanced features in the community into ZTE’s TECS-basedNFV solutions. ZTE will continue to contribute to the promotion andtechnological development of the OpenStack community, as well as the commerciallaunch in the NFV field, to promote the further development of the telecom cloudindustry.
