ZTE Supports ONAP's Momentum as Network Automation Is Featured at Open Networking Summit 2017

2017-04-10

11 April 2017, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced that as part of its participation in the Open Networking Summit (ONS) 2017 as a Platinum member, it supported the momentum of the Open Network Automation Platform (ONAP).

During the summit, the ONAP announced the opening of the project’s code and welcomed new members. The ONAP project stems from the OPEN-O and open source ECOMP projects initiated in 2016. These two projects announced their merger during Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 and the new ONAP community will continue to be committed to implementing an open source project for a cloud-based full-lifecycle software defined networking/network function virtualisation (SDN/NFV) management platform.

After the merger of the two communities, the number of Platinum members has reached 17, and more operators are expected to join the ONAP community in the future. The merger of the two communities brings together the leading forces in the open source networking field, and offers excellent opportunities for the coordinated development of SDN/NFV open-source automated management and orchestration technologies.

As one of the earliest supporters of the OPEN-O project and the second largest code contributor of the OPEN-O SUN version, ZTE is a Platinum member of the ONAP project. During the past year, ZTE has worked on management and orchestration (MANO) open source implementation and relevant standard improvement in open-source communities and the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) NFV.

“The coordinated development of the open source standards and traditional telecommunications standards will vigorously promote industrial development. ZTE’s SDN/NFV product team will continue to work with its partners to promote the maturity of the ONAP project based on a strategy of coordinated development of products, standards and open source,” said Xu Ziyang, president of ZTE SDN/NFV product line.
